Artsplosure '08 cosponsored by DowntownRaleigh.com

Artsplosure is proud to present its 29th annual Spring Arts Festival. This year¹s event will be held May 17 & 18 in and around Moore Square in downtown Raleigh.  Like always, Artsplosure will feature an array of artists' booths, as well as a selection of musical performances for all tastes and Kidsplosure.  Headlining this year will be the Jon Faddis Quartet!

The weekend-long celebration is free to the public.
Hours: Saturday 11am - 7pm and Sunday 11am - 6pm.

The Art Market showcases the talent of more than 170 juried visual artists and crafters from across the country. Artwork by fine artists and crafters exhibiting in 11 different categories will be available for purchase, including photography, pottery, jewelry and more.

The main stage and city stage will be located in Moore Square.  Musical performers will take to both stages all weekend, filling the air with jazz, blues, rock, and more. Schedule performers include Jon Faddis Quartet, Anat Cohen, Otis Taylor, The Old Ceremony, Eric Lindell and more.

Other features of the event include Ed Moore and Sandy Feat and his spectacular sand sculpture. Also, don¹t miss terrific art installations including steel Bubble Wands created by artist Lou Horton and "Polyphemus Plexippus", a 20-foot long caterpillar puppet created by the Paperhand Puppet Intervention.

Kidsplosure provides activities and entertainment for children, all free of charge. In addition to the many arts and crafts available, the Kidsplosure Stage will provide live family-friendly entertainment.

Another great feature of Artsplosure is the Student Art Exhibition.  Each year, a juried selection of artwork by students from Wake County High Schools and Middle Schools is on display at the festival. This aspect of the weekend is an exciting glance into the artistic talent of local students. The exhibition is held at Marbles Kids Museum.

Each year, the Spring Arts Festival attracts 70,000 people over the course of the weekend. The event is presented by Artsplosure, a non-profit corporation that also produces First Night Raleigh.
